EDSA Coding Window Hours: Check Odd-Even Coding Scheme

EDSA Coding Window Hours

EDSA is one of the busiest roads of Metropolitan Manila in the Philippines. To handle overcrowding traffic on EDSA Road, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) launched the Number Coding Hours System. In May 2025, the MMDA replaced the number coding hours scheme with a New 24-Hour Odd-Even Scheme for the EDSA Road.

What is Odd-Even Coding Scheme for EDSA?

The Odd-Even Coding Scheme is made specifically for the EDSA Road only, all other roads in cities of Metro Manila follow the MMDA Number Coding Scheme. The new odd-even coding scheme remains active 24 hours a day from Monday to Saturday, while Sunday remains a free day without any restriction.

EDSA Odd-Even Coding Scheme Rules

The EDSA Odd-Even Coding Scheme Rules apply to all private vehicles except the exempted ones. According to Odd-Even Coding Scheme Rules, the private vehicles with an odd last digit on plate cannot drive on EDSA Road on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On the other hand, the private vehicles with an even last digit cannot drive on EDSA Road on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Here I provide further details about it.

Vehicle Type and Last DigitDays When Prohibited on EDSA Road
Private Vehicles with Odd Last Digit[ 1 or 3 or 5 or 7 or 9 ]MondayWednesdayFriday
Private Vehicles with Even Last Digit[ 2 or 4 or 6 or 8 or 0 ]TuesdayThursdaySaturday
No Restrictions on Any VehicleSunday

What Are EDSA Coding Hours?

The EDSA Coding Hours are active for 24 hours a day. The MMDA has not announced specific coding hours for EDSA Road because the new odd-even coding scheme remains active 24/7 without any break. It simply means that the private vehicles cannot pass through EDSA Road at anytime on the restricted days.

What Are EDSA Coding Window Hours?

The EDSA Coding Window Hours are none because there are no window hours available on EDSA Road for private vehicles. All roads in various cities of Metro Manila provide coding hours in the morning and evening, while they provide coding window hours in the afternoon time but the EDSA Coding Hours are active 24 hours without any window hours.

So, the EDSA coding window hours are not available. Before a few days, the MMDA announced that it may provide EDSA Coding Window Hours during night time from 10:00 or 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM in future. But it is a proposed plan for the future and not an official announcement or rule.

For now, there are not coding window hours on EDSA Road. So, the private vehicles that are restricted as per odd-even coding scheme, are advised to avoid passing by EDSA Road for the whole day i.e. 24 hours (12:00 AM to 11:59 PM).

Exempted Vehicles from EDSA Coding Scheme

The exemption rules in EDSA odd-even coding scheme are the same as stated in the MMDA Number Coding Scheme on all cities/towns of the Metro Manila. Here I provide the list of vehicles that are exempted from EDSA Odd-Even Coding Scheme as under_

  1. Fire Trucks
  2. Ambulances
  3. Fuel Trucks
  4. Garbage Trucks
  5. Motorcycles
  6. Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) including Tricycles
  7. Transport Network Vehicle Services
  8. Motor Vehicles Carrying Essential or Perishable Goods (e.g. fruits, meat, milk, etc.)
  9. LTO Certified Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs)
  10. LTO Certified Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs)
  11. Marked Government Vehicles
  12. Marked Media Vehicles

So, these 12 types of vehicles can pass through EDSA Road at anytime on any day of the year. These vehicles are exempted from the restrictions implemented with new odd-even coding scheme.

Why MMDA Implemented New Odd-Even Coding Scheme on EDSA Road

The EDSA Road condition is deteriorated to a level where the routine maintenance can’t fix it. Therefore the MMDA decided to perform rehabilitation of EDSA Road to repair the damage and restore its structure.

During the rehabilitation work, the MMDA wants to reduce the traffic congestion as much as possible. Therefore it has set 24-hours odd-even coding scheme on EDSA Road. This new scheme remains active from Monday to Saturday and offers only one day-off i.e. Sunday.

Cities Linked to EDSA Road

The EDSA Road is a 23.8 kilometer long highway that is linked with various cities of Metro Manila. Here I provide the list of cities that are linked to EDSA Road as follows_

  1. Caloocan
  2. Makati City
  3. Quezon City
  4. San Juan
  5. Pasay
  6. Mandaluyong

If you live in one of these six cities, you should follow EDSA Odd-Even Coding Scheme 2025 and do not drive your vehicle on EDSA Road on the restricted days.

When will EDSA Odd-Even Coding Scheme End?

According to the latest information in my knowledge, the MMDA will complete the rehabilitation of EDSA Road by 2027. So, it is confirmed that the new odd-even scheme will remain on EDSA Road till 2027 and then it will end with a notice by MMDA.

It is possible that the MMDA may replace the new odd-even coding scheme with the previous number coding scheme on EDSA Road. In addition, the MMDA may provide coding window hours on EDSA Road during night time from 10/11:00 PM to 5:00 AM.

Summary:

The EDSA Road odd-even coding scheme 2025 restricts private vehicles from passing through that road from Monday to Saturday. The restrictions are applied based on the last digit of the vehicle plate and the coding hours remain active for 24 hours i.e. whole day.
